What Is a Quantile Measure?
A Quantile measure is a universal metric for both sides of math development, placing individual math ability and the skills and concepts in lessons and materials on the same scale, signaling readiness to learn. Expressed as a numeric value followed by the letter “Q,” Quantile measures range from below 0Q to 2000Q.
How Quantile Measures Work
Formative, interim, and summative assessments, linked to the Quantile scale, provide a supplemental, agnostic measure of math ability. Student test data is processed and a Quantile measure calculated, allowing the student’s measure to accompany the outcome of the assessment. MetaMetrics® tracks measures across multiple test events, combining prior test measures with current assessment results to improve precision and growth forecasting.
MetaMetrics also calibrates and assigns a Quantile measure for instructional materials and state standards using our interconnected mathematics knowledge model. The math demand of the content, such as textbook lessons, games, and other resources, is analyzed to determine which skills and concepts are represented and the overall difficulty assigned a Quantile measure.
