For self-published authors, standing out in a crowded market often means finding new ways to reach readers, educatoBook an Author logors, and librarians who care deeply about content quality and readability. Book an Author, a fast-growing literary marketplace connecting writers with schools, libraries, and bookstores, is helping independent creators do just that through its new offering: official Certified Lexile® Measures for self-published books.

A Lexile measure is a numeric value (for example, 800L) that represents the complexity of a text on the same scale as measures received by millions of students through assessments. This standardized measure helps educators and families match books with readers at just the right level: challenging enough to promote growth, but not so difficult as to cause frustration.

Through its partnership with MetaMetrics®, the creators of the Lexile Framework for Reading, Book an Author now makes it easy for writers to obtain official Lexile measures at an affordable rate, previously accessible mostly to traditional publishers and large organizations that leverage high-volume packages.

For a small one-time fee, authors can submit their manuscript (in a Word or Google Doc format) and receive a certified Lexile measure within about 25 business days (or less). This certified measure can then be included in book descriptions, sales listings, and marketing materials, enhancing visibility with teachers, librarians, and parents who rely on Lexile information to guide purchasing decisions.

“We’re proud to make official Lexile measures accessible to independent authors,” said Serena Li, Co-Founder of Book an Author. “By helping writers validate the reading level of their work, we’re also helping teachers and librarians discover high-quality, authentic stories that reflect the diversity of readers and classrooms today.”

Beyond the certification process, Book an Author continues to expand its mission of making authentic storytelling accessible for all, offering event booking, publishing services, and fundraising support for more than 300 schools and institutions nationwide.

“The Lexile Framework has long served as the gold standard for measuring text complexity,” said Jay Howe, VP, Corporate Partnerships at MetaMetrics. “We’re thrilled to see Book an Author open the door for self-published authors to gain the same trusted certification as major publishers, ensuring that great stories can find their way into the hands of the right readers.”

Authors interested in obtaining official Lexile measures can learn more or request the service through BookAnAuthor.com.
